Este disco recoge las interpretaciones de las canciones de David Bowie que el mismo Seu Jorge tocaba en la pantalla mientras interpretaba el papel de Pelé Dos Santos, un miembro de la tripulación del Belafonte en The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Anderson solicitó a Jorge que interpretara algunas canciones de Bowie sin saber qué resultado esperar. Jorge tradujo las canciones al portugués y las tocó con un estilo folclórico y apasionado de bossa nova que incluso gustó a David Bowie. Algunas de ellas aparecieron en la banda sonora original de la película pero este disco recoge todas las interpretaciones más una pieza del propio Seu Jorge.

El brasileño Seu Jorge nació en 1970 y pasó su infancia en los barrios bajos de Río de Janeiro trabajando de lo que fuera para sobrevivir. Mientras hacia el servicio militar llegó a tocar la corneta con la banda del ejército. En 1991 su hermano muere en un tiroteo con la policía de Río y en el funeral, Jorge establece contacto con Gabriel Moura sobrino del saxofonista Paolo Maura quien accede a poner en contacto a Jorge con otros aspirantes a músico para formar una banda. Se pasó los siguientes tres años aprendiendo a tocar la guitarra de forma autodidacta y en 1993 fue contratado para actuar y tocar con el grupo teatral Tuerj, de la Universidad de Río de Janeiro. En 1996 deja Tuerj para liderar el grupo Farofa Carioca que vendió poco pero anticipó el revival comercial de la samba. Adoptó el nombre de Seu Jorge y en 1999 dejó Farofa Carioca para iniciar su carrera en solitario colaborando con el productor de los Bestie Boys Mario Caldato. En el cine, en el 2002 actúa como conductor de autobús en Ciudad de Dios (City of God) de Fernando Meirelles y en el 2004 interpreta a Pelé Dos Santos en The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou de Wes Anderson.

This record includes the interpretations of the songs of David Bowie that Seu Jorge played on the screen while interpreting Pelé Dos Santos, a crew member of the Belafonte in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Anderson asked Jorge for interpreting some songs of Bowie without knowing what to expect. Jorge translated the songs to the Portuguese and he played them with an enthusiastic folkloric and bossa nova style that even pleased to David Bowie. Some of them appeared in the original soundtrack of the film but this edition contains all the interpretations plus a song writen by Jorge.
Brazilian Seu Jorge was born in 1970 and he spent his childhood in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, working odd jobs to survive. While serving his year of compulsory military service, he also played cornet in a Brazilian army band. In 1991, Jorge's 16-year-old brother was killed by Rio police and at the funeral he met Gabriel Moura, nephew of Brazilian saxophonist Paolo Maura, who agreed to put Jorge in touch with other aspiring musicians looking to form a band. He spent the next three years teaching himself guitar, and in 1993 was hired as an actor and musician with Tuerj, a theatrical troupe sponsored by the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. In 1996 he left Tuerj to lead Farofa Carioca that sold few records but nevertheless anticipated the commercial revival of samba. Adopting the name Seu Jorge and in 1999 he left Fanofa Carioca to mount a solo career, collaborating with Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato. In 2002, Jorge was cast as Knockout Ned in director Fernando Meirelles' City of God and in 2004 he played Pelé Dos Santos in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
